Oliver McGowan was a young man with a diagnosis of Autism and Learning Disability. He was a happy, fun and caring young man, always seeing the positives in life and nothing ever held him back.
Unfortunately, Oliver very sadly passed away on 11th November 2016. An inquest into his death concluded that Oliver’s death was avoidable. Oliver’s death shone a light on the need for improved training for all health and social care staff. The campaign is led by Oliver’s mother, Paula McGowan OBE, who is passionately raising awareness of the need for all health and social care staff to be appropriately and meaningfully training to help them to understand people who have a learning disability and autistic people.
“Aiming to save lives by ensuring the health and social care workforce have the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability. “
